Let's start by squashing a classic misconception. Yes, hemp is a variety of the cannabis sativa plant. No, it is not a recreational drug. And no, it cannot get you high. Hemp has literally thousands of uses and fulfilling your nutrition needs is just one of them.
Hemp has been around for centuries and was actually one of the earliest plants to be cultivated by human-kind. It's a popular raw material for many products including rope, biofuel, paper, plastics, clothes, skincare, and of course, food. But that's not all. Hemp is sustainable for our environment and can absorb more CO2 from the air than trees.
On 12 November 2017, the Australian Government announced the official legalisation of hemp seed for human food consumption, finally unlocking the vast nutritional benefits of hemp seeds to the masses.
In April 2019, Saint Hemp was born.
“If you don't recognise what you read on the back of a packet, you probably shouldn't be eating it. Our ingredients are all natural and plant based for your peace of mind."
We're very deliberate with the ingredients we've chosen - all natural, plant based, real food. No "natural flavours" or synthetic additives. Unlike many of our competitors, our hemp is 100% grown and processed in Australia. We pack and bottle our products in a dedicated hemp foods facility in New South Wales (where there's no nasty cross contamination) and all of our products are certifiedby HACCP Australia for food safety.
We're really excited about hemp. Not only do hemp seeds contain all the essential amino acids our bodies need, they also provide the optimal 3:1 ratio of omega 6 and 3 for human consumption. Add to that the protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals, and you've got arguably nature's most powerful super food. The cannabis plant has long been misunderstood (read our blog: What is hemp?) so we are here to set the record straight.
Saint Hemp is suitable for the whole family. Give Saint Hemp to your Gran, the essential fats can help her sore joints. Give it to your kids, the extra fibre will aid their digestion. Even the dog isn't left out - give them our hemp oil and it'll hydrate their skin and fur.
If you like the sound of all of that, please do give our products a shot. They're genuinely good for you and our environment.
